What to Wear in Hot Weather?

You've got to be crazy if you are golfing in Palm Springs in the middle of July because by midday, the temperature is over 110 degrees fahrenheit. You know what? I've done it so you can call me crazy. I did it because I wanted to play the Stadium Course at PGA West at a substantially discounted price. How much? I played a round for only $35 and it included a cart and all the water I could carry. They had water and ice machines for you to fill up on and they provided ice soaked towels for you when you tee off and when you return from your round. The cart attendants were like pit stop mechanics, making sure you were hydrated and not sun stroked.
How do people play in the heat? People vacationing there at this time of year will get the earliest tee time possible. At Desert Willow in Palm Desert, you can tee off as early as sunrise and avoid the heat. The temperature in the desert at sunrise is in the low 80's but by the time you make the turn, the temperature will be in the low 90's. When you sink your last putt on the 18th hole, the temperature will be in the 100's. So how do you stay cool in 80 - 100 degrees heat? Are there golf shirts that will keep you cool? Lets explore that topic in detail. What is the Best Golf Shirts to Wear in Hot Weather? When you're golfing in hot and humid locations such as in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, make sure you do not wear cotton. Cotton or any natural fabric will just cling to your body, restrict your turn and make you hotter. The best golf shirts to wear are synthetic like polyester and spandex. Don't underestimate the heat. Choose lighter colors and synthetic fabrics with moisture-wicking properties. Lighter colors will reflect the sun better than darker colors. The synthetic material will not cling to your body so sweat will just roll off or be absorb by the moisture wicking material that will evaporate and dry faster. |

I don't want to sound bias but I think the Under Armour golf shirts do work. I have Nike Dri-fit, Adidas Clima-Cool, Ashworth, Antigua, IZOD, Ralph Lauren Polo, LaCoste, Callaway, Cutter & Buck, Ping, Mizuno and even, Old Navy in my golf closet and on hot days, only the Under Armour golf shirts keep me cool. I have to admit that I only own about four UA golf shirts because they are more expensive than the rest and they don't go on sale often. They have been worn as often as my other golf shirts but they still look brand new. Some of my golf shirts are starting to pill and snag but not the UA golf shirts. They hold their form and the material looks as new now as when I first bought them. They may be a little more money than other golf shirts but I can tell you, they are worth every penny you pay.
Where do you find discounted golf shirts? The best place to find discounted golf shirts is online. Try RockBottomGolf first because they seem to have last season's selections on sale first. They are located in Florida but they ship anywhere including Canada. I love looking in their 50% off Cave for special deals but I like it especially when there is a promo code. It is no secret where to find the promo code. They provide it on their home page in plain sight. Their prices are already incredible but with a promo code, you end up saving even more. Give them a try if you haven't done so already. You will find Under Armour golf shirts along with the other brands. If UA is too expensive for your wallet, try the Clima shirts from Adidas or Callaway Opti-Dry shirts. Either of these two have a moisture wicking technology in their fabric. Another place to find discounted golf shirts is the pro shop at local golf courses near you. But don't expect huge discounts in the summer or in the middle of golf season. Wait until the weather changes and the end of golf season is near. This is usually in September or October. In winter belt cities, the end of golf season is usually in late summer or early fall. When the leaves starts to fall and it is difficult to find a golf ball then it is almost time for the golf course to wrap up its season. Pro shops all over will want to clear the inventory so they can prepare for new stock to arrive in the Spring. They will slash prices on everything including golf shirts, golf pants, pullovers, jackets and more. Watch for discounts at this time and buy the premium apparel at 30-75% off. |
